On 13th February 2024, UDMRI Dehradun proudly celebrated National Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Day, an occasion dedicated to honoring the vital role oral surgeons play in comprehensive patient care, trauma management, facial reconstruction, and surgical dentistry.
The event was spearheaded by the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and aimed to enhance awareness among students, patients, and the community regarding the scope and significance of this specialized field.
The celebration began with an inaugural address by senior faculty members, who spoke about the evolution of oral surgery, its growing importance in both dental and medical disciplines, and the integration of modern technology in surgical care. This was followed by a series of engaging academic activities, including presentations, case discussions, and educational videos illustrating key procedures like third molar extractions, management of maxillofacial trauma, and oral pathologies.
An awareness drive was also conducted within the college campus and outpatient department (OPD) areas. Informative posters, patient education leaflets, and interactive sessions were organized to help patients understand the importance of early diagnosis and timely surgical intervention.
Adding a practical dimension to the event, a free consultation and screening camp was held for OPD patients. Faculty and postgraduate students provided oral health checkups, surgical consultations, and guidance on procedures ranging from minor oral surgeries to corrective jaw treatments.
The day concluded with the felicitation of student contributors, followed by a group photograph marking the spirit of learning and professional excellence.
