Department of Public Health Dentistry

The Department of Public health dentistry works to improve the health of the people in the nearby areas by preventing illness, promoting good oral health and protecting people from oral health problems. It aims to provide leadership and excellence in the field of oral health promotion and dental public health. The department undertakes a plethora of outreach activities to benefit the population through screening and treatment camps, oral health awareness camps, street plays, and distribution of oral hygiene kits. The Department ensures strengthening of interaction with the community and support of community oriented programs.

Department of Achievements

Public Health Dentistry is the science and art of preventing and controlling dental diseases and promoting dental health through organized community efforts. It is that form of dental practice that serves the community/country as a whole rather than an individual.

Department of Public Health Dentistry is responsible for promoting oral health among communities through oral health education programmes and outreach programmes in various Villages, Schools, Institutes and Industries.

The department successfully organizes NO Tobacco Day, Oral Health Day, Oral Hygiene Day, Women’s Day, National Public Health Dentistry Day, National Dentist’s Day, Children’s day, World’s Health Day, Oral Health month etc. celebrations in the dental college and hospital and nearby villages and schools every year wherein general public (children, adult and old age people) gets educated on the harmful effects of tobacco, benefits of cleaning teeth every day, awareness towards oral health and suggesting ways to stop tobacco intake, methods of tooth brushing and how to maintain good oral health.
Department also participates in public awareness programmes organized by government of Uttarakhand.
Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan
Screening and Treatment Programmes organized by Khel Mandal Doiwala Currently, two satellite dental clinics are functional under this department.
Also, two villages are adopted under this department for providing oral health care to the rural population of the villages.
Regular school oral health programmes are being conducted in the two schools adopted by the institute.
Department conducts more than 100 camps every year.

Dr. Mohit Dadu, Reader, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Uttaranchal Dental and Medical Research Institute, completed his graduation from Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra in the year 2009 and post-graduation from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut in the year 2013. He has several National and International publications to his credit and is co-author of the book titled “Role of Physical Anthropology in Dental Public Health”. He is life member of Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry and EC member for Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry – U.P. Chapter. He is actively involved in various community outreach programmes in nearby schools, villages and industries. He attended several conferences/ workshops/ CDE programme at state, national & international level and contributed as the member of organizing committee in conventions and conferences. He Have a sound knowledge of biostatistics and helped several MDS, MD and DNB students by performing statistics in their thesis work and research projects.
