Department of Oral Medicine & Radiology

The specialty of Oral Medicine & Radiology plays a vital role in comprehensive oral health as well as systematic assessment of patients to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning. The department also deals with screening of precancerous and cancerous lesions, treatment of oral mucosal lesions and temporo-mandibular disorders. The department is equipped with TENS treatment modality for muscular disorders of jaw bones. The department is also involved in various academic activities of forensic dentistry.

The radiology unit deals with the intra-oral and extra-oral radiographic evaluation and radio-diagnosis. The department is equipped with Radiovisiography (RVG), Intra and extra oral X-ray units and digital Orthopantomograph and Cephalogram units.

The department is academically involved in teaching third year, fourth year BDS students and interns. The teaching and learning activities include lectures, seminars, group discussions, demonstrations to achieve academic excellence At the end of the course, the students are skilled with the ability of comprehensive examination, diagnosis and treatment planning as well as management of mucosal lesions.

To engage the students and make learning more fun, department also holds Annual OMR quiz competitions for fourth year BDS students and Interns.

The department has been carrying out multiple research activities as well as long term studies. Department prides itself at the laurels brought to the college by the winners of National Essay Competitions.

The Tobacco Cessation Centre (TCC) of the institute is run by the department of Oral Medicine & Radiology. The TCC is actively involved in identifying, counselling and effectively motivate the tobacco users to quit the habit. During the course, the students are trained in patient counselling and imparting health education to tobacco users.
