Oral Hygiene Day

About the Event

On 1st August 2023, UDMRI Dehradun observed Oral Hygiene Day to promote the importance of maintaining good oral health and to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. G.B. Shankwalkar, the pioneer of Indian periodontology.

The event was organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry and aimed at raising awareness about oral hygiene practices among students, faculty, and the general public. The celebration included a variety of interactive and educational activities designed to highlight the vital role of oral health in overall well-being.

The program commenced with a formal address by faculty members, who emphasized the link between oral hygiene and systemic health, and the need for regular dental check-ups and preventive care. This was followed by oral health education sessions conducted for patients and visitors at the dental OPD, focusing on brushing techniques, the impact of diet, and the prevention of common oral diseases.

Students also participated in a poster presentation competition, displaying creative and informative visuals on topics related to oral hygiene, periodontal health, and public awareness. The initiative encouraged student engagement and helped spread critical health messages in an accessible format.

To further engage the community, a free dental screening camp was organized, where patients received oral examinations and hygiene instructions from faculty and postgraduate students. Educational pamphlets and oral care kits were distributed to reinforce the messages shared during the event.

Oral Hygiene Day at UDMRI served as a meaningful platform to encourage preventive dental care and educate the community about the long-term benefits of maintaining a healthy mouth. The institution remains committed to promoting oral health awareness as a cornerstone of holistic healthcare.
