World No Tobacco Day

About the Event

On 31st May 2024, UDMRI Dehradun observed World No Tobacco Day with a series of awareness-driven activities aimed at educating students, staff, and the community about the harmful effects of tobacco use and the importance of a tobacco-free lifestyle.

The event was organized by the Department of Public Health Dentistry in collaboration with student volunteers and aimed to align with the global mission of the World Health Organization to reduce tobacco consumption and promote public health.

The day began with an awareness rally around the campus and nearby areas, where students carried placards and chanted slogans advocating a tobacco-free future. This was followed by interactive sessions and presentations, where dental students highlighted the systemic and oral health risks associated with tobacco through posters, short talks, and real-life case studies.

A powerful NukkadNatak (street play) was also performed by students, conveying strong messages about the dangers of smoking, passive smoke exposure, and the deceptive marketing tactics of the tobacco industry. The dramatic performance was well-received and left a lasting impact on the audience.

Informational booths and visual displays were set up within the college premises, offering free educational materials and guidance on tobacco cessation methods. Faculty members also engaged students in open discussions and shared real-world clinical experiences dealing with tobacco-related health issues.

The event concluded with a pledge ceremony, where participants vowed to support tobacco-free environments and educate others about the consequences of tobacco use.

World No Tobacco Day 2024 at UDMRI served as a powerful platform to inspire awareness, advocacy, and action—reaffirming the institution’s commitment to building a healthier, tobacco-free future.
